October President’s Message
We’re just a few days away from a unique event for PRSA Richmond called “A Time to Celebrate.” While the awards events that we all know and love (ahem, PR Prom to some of us … ) are on hiatus as we navigate COVID, we still found a way to celebrate exceptional work, great people and our thriving PR community. If you haven’t yet, please purchase a ticket to the Wednesday event at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens from 6-8 p.m.
You might recall that PRSA Richmond voted to move DEI Month, formerly Diversity Month, from August to October. We recently changed the name to DEI Month because equity and inclusion efforts are essential, too. Our October program topic is focused on transportation equity and our social content throughout the month will highlight DEI issues in the profession and actions we can take ensure that we’re part of the solution.
As a Chapter, we’re being intentional with our DEI commitments. This isn’t a campaign or a phase, it’s a mission that we’ll carry from here out. If you haven’t reviewed our Diversity & Inclusion plan, please take a look, engage with us and hold the organization accountable. One more thing you’ll see from us this month is our “path to leadership” guide. There should be no mystery to board or committee service. We’ll lay that out clearly and, as I’ve said before, I would love to talk with anyone who’s interested. There is a place for you.
Finally, thank you to everyone who completed the survey about in-person events. We’ve decided that our monthly programs will remain virtual through 2021.
Because a significant portion of the Chapter expressed an interest in getting together face to face, we’re offering a number of opportunities. Some are smaller groups, some are outdoors, and some require masks.
Please check out our October events to learn more.
Let’s make it another great month – and I hope to see you in-person or virtually soon!
Be well.
Lindsay
p.s. If you didn’t watch the Virginia PR Awards video premiere, it’s a must watch as Natalie Smith’s TJ Award acceptance speech shared words of wisdom and gratitude while Hannah Robinson’s Rising Star speech rang true for so many with her authentic perspective on what it means to be a young professional.
The video also celebrates our Best in Show winners, including Bon Secours Mercy Health and Padilla. Congratulations to both!
