Happy Ethics Month!

Each September, PRSA members across the country celebrate Ethics Month by renewing our collective commitment to be ethical communications professionals. And, yes, I use the word celebrate intentionally. Being an ethical PR pro is something we should enjoy, a jubilant activity that is pleasant and special.

Each and every one of us should be taking time to recognize how we are intentional about honoring the organization’s Code of Ethics and ensuring we’re living up to the standards set forth in them. If you haven’t celebrated this recently, this month is a great time to join the party!

During September, PRSA offers special ethics webinars. I encourage you to make time to attend these upcoming sessions.

Shining a Light on Dark Tactics: Disinformation, Climate Litigation, and the PRSA Code of Ethics

Lessons Learned and Ethical Consideration of Using AI Technologies

September 12 at 4 p.m.

It’s your responsibility to understand the ethical challenges related to our rapidly changing world. Whether it’s environmental, medical, technological or any number of other ways in which ethical situations arise, it’s important to participate in discussions and professional development opportunities so you’re aware of not only how certain situations may impact you, but also our society and our profession.

If you can’t attend the Ethics Month offerings, make time to review other ethics-related resources on PRSA’s website. Most are included free with your membership. I promise, in September and always, ethics are certainly worth celebrating.
