January Member Spotlight: Holly Claytor

specialolympicsva-8523Holly Claytor is the senior director of public relations with Special Olympics Virginia and has been a PRSA Richmond member for nine years. She is a 2014 recipient of the Virginia Public Relations Award of Excellence and a 2015 recipient of the Virginia Public Relations Award of Merit.

What do you enjoy most about being a public relations practitioner?

I love telling and sharing stories. Special Olympics Virginia has 27,000+ athletes, and each one of them has an inspirational story. I may never tell them all – but I’ll try!

What three accomplishments, personal and/or professional, you are most proud of?

I am most proud of my family – they teach me beautiful things each and every day; my career – I absolutely love working for Special Olympics Virginia; and bringing the two together, so my children can learn how to be inclusive and respectful of all people, despite differences.

How does PRSA help to support your success?

PRSA allows me to stretch and grow not only through the monthly workshops, but also through meeting and engaging with other professionals who have similar careers and challenges.

What is one of your favorite take-aways from the chapter or best recent memory from your involvement?

I loved being part of the PRSA Public Service Committee. Even though I work in nonprofit, it was great to network with other PRSA members and provide ideas and assistance to another RVA nonprofit.

I am a PRSA Richmond member because …of the networking and continuing education opportunities!
