July President’s Message
For most of us, summer equals vacation. I sincerely hope all of you have something fun planned in the coming months that allows you to step away from your daily work and personal routines and recharge your batteries.
PRSA Richmond also takes a little break in the summer. Our chapter doesn’t have membership luncheons in July and August. We find that the adage “absence makes the heart grow fonder” holds true—if we don’t get our members together for two months for networking, fellowship and professional development, they appreciate us more when we all come back together in September!
But, just because there isn’t a membership meeting, doesn’t mean the chapter isn’t doing things. There are a number of great events—from a nonprofit communicator meet-up to a joint party with the American Marketing Association, Ad Club and Society for Marketing Professional Services—happening in July and August. Plus, the board is getting together in a few weeks to make sure we are accomplishing our goals and giving our members what they want, need and expect. (If we aren’t, let me know!)
Details about everything that is going on this summer, including a big push about diversity and inclusion in August, will be posted on PRSA Richmond’s website.
Also, don’t forget about the resources PRSA National offers. Just like teachers worry about brain drain for students over the summer, PR pros shouldn’t rest on their laurels in July and August. If your office quiets down in the coming months and you have some time to focus on honing your skills or learning about a new area of PR, consider browsing through the extensive list of publications, articles, white papers, webinars, case studies, research documents and more on www.PRSA.org.
As a member of PRSA Richmond as well as PRSA National, these benefits are available to you. Use the materials to help spark a creative idea, provide support for a current initiative or stay motivated.
Once again, happy summer. I hope it’s the perfect mix of sun, fun and PRSA!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Guild, APR
