June 2021 President’s Message

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the official start of summer!

Something that has me very excited is that we’ve announced the plans for the Virginia PR Awards. First, we’ll recognize all the amazing work that we did in 2020 virtually on September 22, and then two weeks later on October 6, there will be an in-person reception at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the TJ and Rising Star honorees and the Best in Show winners from the Commonwealth and Capital awards. There will be a limited amount of tickets available to the general membership so please stay tuned for details on ticket pricing and other logistics.

I can’t wait to be together as a chapter to celebrate each other and thank our generous sponsors.

With that said, please work on completing your awards entries. Save a few dollars by hitting the early bird deadline of June 2 and rest easy knowing that you have two more opportunities left to complete your entry – June 16 and June 30. Last year was challenging, no question, and there was also some great communications work that you and your team accomplished under tough circumstances.

Mark your calendars for our June 30 program, “An Effort to Understand: How a Communicator’s Perspective Can Change the World.” Author and award-winning journalist David Murray will share the wisdom he learned from a 30-year career spent among journalists, oral historians, psychologists and communicators that can help us even in this deeply divided society. David also heads the global Professional Speechwriters Association and can share a few tips on how this perspective can influence and enhance our writing.

And finally, my coffee offer still stands. Only now I’ll be switching to iced coffee. I’d love to meet up with you in-person or virtually to talk about PRSA, work, life and the path to leadership in the chapter. There’s a place and space for everyone to get involved. Reach out to president@prsarichmond.org.

Thanks, be well and I’ll see you on Zoom in June!
