PRSA Board Member Amie Cotton Passes Away

PRSA Richmond board member Amie Cotton, APR, passed away July 15. She was the chapter’s co-chair of the nonprofit section and previously served on the board as director-at-large. She also served as an integral member on the Virginia PR Awards committee for several years, helping to coordinate online entries and reciprocal judging.

“Amie was warm, smart, positive and helpful,” said PRSA Richmond President Jennifer Guild, APR. “She was a huge asset to PRSA Richmond and an amazing ambassador for the PR profession. She will be greatly missed.”

PRSA Richmond Past President Andrew Ryan, APR, said Cotton’s work as director-at-large while he was president of the chapter in 2016 helped to create additional resources for chapter members.

“She developed monthly resource kits for our members, and I have many fond memories of talking with Amie last year about the articles she wrote and topics she researched,” Ryan said. “Her enthusiasm for our profession was infectious! She was a wonderful person – generous, caring and intelligent. Amie was approachable and friendly and always willing to help others.”

PRSA Richmond Chapter Administrator Sara Hunt shares a memory: “As a brand new member of the chapter, Amie volunteered to be a judge for the Virginia PR Awards, back when entries were submitted via hard copy in binders. She drove to Richmond from her home in Charlottesville to help judge awards. She was so eager to be of service to our chapter, and she cared deeply about many things, including her profession and PRSA.”
