The 2017 Membership Survey: A Snapshot
By Lindsay O’Bar
Every other year, PRSA Richmond fields a membership survey for your feedback. In 2017, 92 members participated in the survey. We took the opportunity to dig a little deeper for your thoughts on Member Satisfaction; Diversity and Inclusion; Services and Programs; and APR Accreditation.
Here’s an overview of the findings:
- Member Satisfaction: 95 percent of our membership are extremely satisfied or satisfied with their membership. We’re proud of this number. Our No. 1 goal is to create top notch programming that inspires and informs, along with great networking opportunities.
- Diversity and Inclusion: 93 percent of people feel “welcome and included,” and 78 percent stated that PRSA Richmond supports diversity and an inclusive environment. Diversity in the chapter, the workplace and in the public relations field is important. We’re making sure diversity in woven into the fabric of PRSA Richmond, from looking at opportunities to insert more diversity into programming to making sure every board member considers diversity when thinking about their annual goals. A lot of this work is being driven by our Diversity and Inclusion chair Shannon Johnson. Would you like to join the committee? Email her at: Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov.
- Services and Programs: Not surprisingly, 95 percent of members rate the monthly luncheons as the most important service of PRSA Richmond. We do too! We’re committed to bringing national caliber, engaging and trend-setting speakers. Have ideas? Email our 2nd Vice President of Programs Windy Campbell at windycampbell@mindspring.com. Also, don’t forget to fill out the monthly luncheon surveys. We love reading your feedback.
- APR Accreditation: Nearly three-fourths of membership say having the APR is valuable. Thirty-eight percent of non-APR members expressed interest in exploring the accreditation. We’re here to help. The PRSA Richmond chapter is proud to send two candidates to the Mid-Atlantic’s bootcamp this April. There are still some open slots. Email our Accreditation chair Renee Russell for other APR resources at vrrussell@vcu.edu.

A big thank you to Windy Campbell for fielding the 2017 survey, and to Tom Morris, APR for analyzing the data. And an even bigger thank you to all the members who took the time to take the survey.
