Why Nominate Someone for the Rising Star Award?
It’s a special time of year for PRSA Richmond – the Virginia PR Awards! This is a special time because along with the great work that is submitted, we will also recognize two outstanding individuals in the PR industry! This includes the Thomas Jefferson Award for Excellence and the Rising Star Award.
In 2017, Blake Mirzayan was awarded the Rising Star designation. The Rising Star Award recognizes an outstanding new member in the profession with five or fewer years of experience in PR. He was nominated by his colleagues at Padilla. We asked Rosalie Morton, who prepared his nomination last year, why it is so important to recognize these individuals.
Why did you nominate Blake?
He was really a standout. Strategy came naturally to him. He was willing to roll up his sleeves. He was a great counselor, and clients trusted his advice.
Why are these awards so important to the PR profession?
I think that it’s always great to recognize people for doing good work. We don’t do it enough sometimes in our profession.
What should people consider when making a nomination?
Think about other people in the community who can contribute. Is there a former professor? Do they do work for any nonprofits? Is there a client who could provide a recommendation? Also make sure to provide examples of successful campaigns they’ve done.
What do you think judges are looking for in nominations?
Recommendations from respected members of the community.
Anything you want to say to encourage people to nominate?
It’s easy, and it’s a fantastic thing to do for young talent you admire and respect. You’ll make their day (or even year!)
If you know someone to nominate in either of these categories, submit a 250-word statement summarizing why this person is deserving, a headshot, up to five letters of recommendation and up to five supporting documents. You must also include an executive summary of the submission, up to 100 words. The deadline for the awards is March 5. Get your award entries in now, and we look forward to seeing you in May for the big surprises!
